The best adjustable dumbbells are effective for strength training and exercise. They save space and money, but they are not cheap.
When looking for adjustable dumbbells, check that the adjustment mechanism is smooth. Popular dumbbells are marketed by Bowflex and PowerBlock.
The Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells are highly rated. Two models are available:
1. SelectTech 1090 adjusts from 10 to 90 pounds. Price is about $600.
2. SelectTech 552 adjusts from 5 to 52.5 pounds. Price is about $400. To adjust the weight, you use a dial. This design is easy to use.
PowerBlock has a large selection of adjustable dumbbells. Price range is about $150-890.
The PowerBlock Sport 2.4 model has a weight range of 3-24 pounds in 3 lb increments. Price is about $150 per pair.
The Sport 5.0 model has a weight range of 5-50 pounds in 5 lb increments. Price is about $300 per pair plus $59 shipping.
There are several other dumbbell manufacturers that make adjustable dumbbells.
The Stamina Versa-Bell costs about $180. The weight range is 10-50 pounds.
The Reebok Adjust-A-Weight Set costs about $80. It has an easy turn dial weight adjustment up to 25 lbs.
The Ironmaster 75 lb Quick Lock system costs about $550 for a pair. The Quick Lock design adjusts from 5-75 lbs in 2.5 lb increments. Weight adjustments are made with a set screw.
